LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Junior Corey White won the javelin competition with a school-record throw at the Texas Relays today (April 5) to lead the Trojan track and field team this weekend at the Texas Relays, Stanford Invitational and Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

White threw the javelin 256-10 (78.29m) to win the title at the Texas Relays by more than 21 feet over Alex van der Merwe of UTEP (235-9) and break the USC school record of 244-8 (74.58) set by Nils Fearnley in 1995. To put it in perspective, last year's NCAA champion in the javelin Justin Ryncavage of North Carolina won with a mark of 241-5. White's previous best in the javelin had been 241-8 on March 22 at the Trojan Invitational.

Freshman Kristine Busa also had an impressive outing in the women's javelin, placing second with a throw of 168-1 (51.24m).

The Trojans' women's relay teams also did well at the Texas Relays with the 4x400m relay team of sophomore Myra Hasson, sophomore Elizabeth Olear, sophomore Judith Onyepunuka and senior Carol Rodriguez winning the University/College competition with a time of 3:34.39, ninth best all-time by a Trojan quartet. The 4x100m relay team of senior Jessica Onyepunuka, sophomore Shalina Clarke, Judith Onyepunuka and Rodriguez ran a season-best time of 44.40 to place sixth in the University/College section.
